Sand & Sea foam Vase
$285.00
Sold Out
This vase holds a moment in the ocean as the white-crackle glaze uncannily mimics the qualities of a wave breaking upon a sandy sea-shore. When I glazed this vase I did so by pouring the glaze with one hand and holding the vase up with the other and pointing downward in an effort to use gravity to pull the glaze down with all of its natural force. The result yields a realistic rendition of the tide sweeping past a shoreline and wrapped around a vase.
This piece is glazed on the outside with the white crackle glaze, which has texture to it. The light brown underneath on the outside of the vase is the natural color of the exposed clay body and also has a nice texture to it, smoother than the white glaze. The inside of this piece is also glazed with a solid white glaze.
This piece is decorative and is not water-tight, meaning that if water is put inside of it it will condensate out of the bottom. This is a natural characteristic of this clay body.
As it is a decorative piece, if you have any concerns of it tipping over as it is also quite tall I recommend using Museum Putty or Quake Hold (both of which are non-damaging putty-like adhesives). These are meant for pottery and other decorative objects and they create a permanent hold (until removal is desired--which is quite simple) between the object and a piece of furniture. Such a wonderful invention!
As the environment is a large portion of the inspiration in my work, it is also on the forefront of my mind when considering shipping, which is why I make sure to use 100% recyclable materials. The packing tape is water activated, which creates a permanent seal to the box and helps reduce the amount of tape I use (and since the tape is 100% recyclable/biodegradable, it can be recycled with the box itself!). I use a thermal printer to print out my shipping labels (using no ink cartridges) and the backing of the labels are also recyclable. Lastly, to ensure that packages arrive to you safely I take great care in packing up my items to send. I use paper-packing materials are all 100% recyclable and I reuse post-consumer packing materials whenever I can!
Along with the wonderfully grounding feeling of experiencing a handmade object, I feel that it is also my responsibility as an artist and a maker to provide you with piece of mind into the steps I've taken to reduce the amount of waste produced from my shop. The earth provides us with marvel and beauty and I believe that through measures such as these, we get a little bit closer to experiencing our own personal fifth season.
Thank you very much for having a look at this unique piece!
