Sagebrush Mugs

These four mugs have a desert like quality to them, carrying with them the warmth and occasional sage-green of a plain. They are all exceptionally lightweight and feel very comfortable in the hand. Please expect slight variations between each cup, as each piece boasts a unique quality and personality of its own!

This glaze is also on the more delicate side, meaning that movement beneath the glaze, as well as on it, is shown. For example, the very bottom of the inside of these cups are not completely smooth, and there are markings left on the body of these mugs from tool marks when glazing (see photos). All of these lovely-left-overs are just aesthetic and do not compromise the integrity of these mugs.

The handles on all of these mugs are pulled, which, in my opinion, leads to a more ergonomic feel in the hand. The process of pulling handles is delicate and patient work, as a piece of wet clay is pressed into the leather-hard cup and carefully lengthened into the desired circumference, size and form. Pulled handles are often much more comfortable due to the fact that they are carefully molded from the pressure of the hand and fingers in the process of being made. As a result, our fingers naturally nest into the nooks of the handles, effortlessly falling into a comfortable position. Lastly, the look of a pulled handle is also unique in that they appear to have grown out from the body of the cylinder rather than just attached after the fact. They appear to look as though they have always been there.

Each cup measures just over 3 inches in height and are 3.25 inches in diameter. They are all food/microwave safe!

As the environment is a large portion of the inspiration in my work, it is also on the forefront of my mind when considering shipping, which is why I make sure to use 100% recyclable materials. The packing tape is water activated, which creates a permanent seal to the box and helps reduce the amount of tape I use (and since the tape is 100% recyclable/biodegradable, it can be recycled with the box itself!). I use a thermal printer to print out my shipping labels (using no ink cartridges) and the backing of the labels are also recyclable. Lastly, to ensure that packages arrive to you safely I take great care in packing up my items to send. I use paper-packing materials are all 100% recyclable and I reuse post-consumer packing materials whenever I can!

Along with the wonderfully grounding feeling of experiencing a handmade object, I feel that it is also my responsibility as an artist and a maker to provide you with piece of mind into the steps I've taken to reduce the amount of waste produced from my shop. The earth provides us with marvel and beauty and I believe that through measures such as these, we get a little bit closer to experiencing our own personal fifth season.

Thank you very much for having a look at these unique pieces!

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me.

Doug
