Textured Rocky Vase

This textured piece was created using chips and pieces of clay from previously broken pots. I applied the broken pottery bits to the exterior of this piece while it was in a cylinder while being thrown. I caked on the shards of bone dry clay and then expanded this vase from the inside which, when widened, eventuated the rough texture into a rocky surface. The vase was colored on its exterior with yellow and red iron oxide.

This piece measure 6.5” in height and 6” in diameter. This piece is also a functional vase.
