Blindfolded Blue Bowl (Second)

This wonderful blue bowl is an absolute one of a kind piece! It has a charming oblong wave to the rim, which gives it additional asymmetric personality. This bowl is 11.5 inches in diameter and 5" inches tall and has a very lovely weight to it! It has a soothing blue glaze that coats the inside in a cloud-like fashion, and the outside of the piece interacts with the glaze in a such a way that accents the throwing rings. When looking more closely on the outside of this piece the troughs of the throwing rings pool the glaze in a much darker blue and a balmy brown.

Each week I throw pottery blindfolded in a livestream on Reddit, and this piece was one of the ones that made it off of the wheel. On the bottom of the piece, above my maker's mark, there is a small "B" indicating that it was made blindfolded. Interacting with clay in that capacity is just so much fun and I am so excited to be offering up this piece!

I am considering this piece a second (meaning there are slight imperfections) because there are two small spots in which the glaze didn't solidify completely smoothly (see photo). After the firing those two small holes were slightly sharp so I sanded them down enough to not be felt. In direct light, small sanding marks can be noticed, otherwise they are not easily seen.

I would recommend this piece be used only as a fruit bowl or as a decorative piece due to the imperfections. If you have any questions regarding food safety with this bowl, please feel free to reach out to me.

As the environment is a large portion of the inspiration in my work, it is also on the forefront of my mind when considering shipping, which is why I make sure to use 100% recyclable materials. The packing tape is water activated, which creates a permanent seal to the box and helps reduce the amount of tape I use (and since the tape is 100% recyclable/biodegradable, it can be recycled with the box itself!). I use a thermal printer to print out my shipping labels (using no ink cartridges) and the backing of the labels are also recyclable. Lastly, to ensure that packages arrive to you safely I take great care in packing up my item to send. I use paper-packing materials are all 100% recyclable and I reuse post-consumer packing materials whenever I can!

Along with the wonderfully grounding feeling of experiencing a handmade object, I feel that it is also my responsibility as an artist and a maker to provide you with piece of mind into the steps I've taken to reduce the amount of waste produced from my shop. The Earth provides us with marvel and beauty and I believe that through measures such as these, we get a little bit closer to experiencing our own personal fifth season.

Thank you very much for having a look at this unique piece!

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me.

Warmly,
Doug
